Instruction Opening: To begin this class the students will have a free write on the question on the board “How did life begin?” they will write for about 10 minutes and then we will begin the lesson. Activities: The students will take notes on the powerpoint I have created. The powerpoint covers the three different hypotheses about how life began. It also includes the important names and dates of the experiments that either proved or disproved these theories. After this the students will discuss in their groups which hypothesis they believe is most accurate, then as a class we will report out and create a pros and cons list of the three hypotheses.
Closing: Finally we will as a class brainstorm different ideas as to how life began. For homework the students will find and summarize one article on the subject of the origin of life.
Assessment Notes: There will be no formal assessment for this lesson.
